T.H.A.W. - The House Always Wins

HOW TO PLAY

PayWell: Avoid getting squashed by PayWell, when the platforms collapse, make him fall into the river. Your Spin Attack won't hurt him.

Totoad Rena: Dodge his various bullet patterns until you can reach him and hit him with your Spin Attack as he panicks and becomes vulnerable momentarily. Make your way back to him again to hit him. (This fight was adjusted to make it in time for the jam. Sorry!)

• Jump: A (Xbox) or X (PS)
• DoubleJump: A (Xbox) or X (PS) after jumping  (if cheat active)

STORYLINE

In this game, you play as "House". A Fennec who lost his job the day before and was left with nothing besides his gambling spirit. He decides to try his luck at the Fisher Brothers Casino to win himself out of his predicament by playing his favourite game, roulette.

He starts betting on Red, watching all of his remaining money swiftly disappear, and in little to no time, he loses all of his money. Not willing to walk away with empty pockets he bets his own property, inevitably losing it as well as he bets on red again.

Eventually, he was left with absolutely nothing and as he was making his way out of the casino he was approached by the Fisher Brothers. They sweet-talked him, praising his gambling spirit and they make him "an offer he couldn't refuse" as a courtesy for his troubles. They hand him a Poker Chip with a skull on it, allowing him to make one final bet.

"This Poker Chip represents your final gambit, a way to get everything you lost back and then some! Think of it as... Your lucky charm."

Having nothing else left to lose and feeling like lady luck wouldn't let him down again, he wagers his own freedom, unable to realize that the Poker Chip represents his own demise... Unsurprisingly, he loses once again by betting on red. (F) o7

The Fisher Brothers, now owning him in the most literal way possible, have an idea to put him to good use as they saw him try to fight off the casino guards as they were trying to restrain him.

In order to have a chance to regain his freedom the Fisher Brothers force him to fight their most unruly goons, of which they had gotten tired due to their antics.

ABOUT US

Hello, everyone. We are video game enthusiasts who have decided to team up for this Game Jam. The group consists mainly of five people.

We are very sorry that we learned about this Jam a little too late (more precisely, on January 16th). We would have liked to present something closer to all the ideas we have in our heads, but for now, this is the best we can offer. However, we are happy to inform you that we will continue to work actively on this project.

KNOWN BUGS

1. If you enter the options while full screen, you have to press ESC twice.
2. Falling into the water during the PayWell boss fight may cause the player to go out of bounds. (You need to reload the page)
3. In the Totoad battle, when you die, the game over screen does not appear.
4. while navigating the main menu you cannot move using a controller.
5. You can only navigate the main menu by scrolling down, even if the up button is pressed. (because gambling lets u down).
6. Jumping May be inverted from X to Triangle depending on the controller/pad used.
